Country Kitchens

Kitchens in country homes are very warm and welcoming to anybody who enters a kitchen in a country house, which could be my kitchen because we live in the country. A country kitchen is also a room where cooking, entertaining friends, and other family get together. Well-designed country kitchens will have a lot of the same features as a tradition kitchen that is found in other homes, other than country homes.

There are a lot of colors and patterns that you can have in your country kitchen. For example, you can have the colors of blue and yellow, which is good for small spaces because yellow opens up the area. Yellow paint makes your room cheerful and sunny.

A lot of the color and patterns that you can use in your country kitchen can be supplied by ceramic tiles that are used for splashbacks and worktops. If you decided  on using handmade tiles, these tiles have naturally uneven surfaces that catches the light which gives different designs to each tile. Now if you decide on using plain tiles in your country kitchen, the tiles will give you more of a matte quality to the glaze, which makes the finish to be cool and calming.

Another couple of colors that you can see in a country kitchen and they are green and cream. When you think about these colors, you think about pantry and dairy.

If you happen to have pine wood in your country kitchen, the colors of blue and red would offset the tones of the wood.

Cream and white paint are very soft and subtle which comes as a classic country house look.

Blue and white are another set of colors that you will see in country kitchens located in country homes.

Now, back in the country kitchen when you are thinking about what kind of furniture you are going to use in your country kitchen, some ideas are clean furniture lines, plain paneled cabinets and everything being based on simple functionality.

If you are not going to use ceramic tiles in your country kitchen. you can use painted tongue and groove wood paneling. You can use the tongue and groove paneling as a splashback behind the sink and draining board.

If you do not want fitted wall shelves, you can use old fruit crates. If you are using  crates you need to make sure the sides and end pieces are sound, so they will be sturdy enough for whatever you plan to use them for. Either paint your crates to match your kitchen color, or just leave it unfinished for a more rustic, artisan effect.

If you have room in your kitchen for a hutch that would be nice, but if not you can make your own version with a rack that you use for display or  use a set of open shelves fixed to a wall above a table or maybe a chest.

These are some of the colors that are use in country kitchens, blues, pinks, creams, greens, olive green, terra-cotta, and slate blue.

In a country kitchen the deep, square design of the classic ceramic sink, especially when it has a draining boards.

There are several different types of storage that goes in country kitchens. They are spice drawers, pretty linings, and plate racks. Spice drawers are perfect for storing spices, herbs, and flavorings. Pretty linings that you put on flatware drawers and cabinet shelves. Wooden plate racks can do double duty as drainers and storage, which is very useful when your country kitchen does not have a whole lot of space.

Message boards are really neat to have to put your messages and shopping lists, doctor appointments, and so much more.
